The Final Showdown: Bridgestone e6 vs. Callaway Supersoft! Amateur Golf Ball Challenge Part 4

Today is a big day. It is officially Cut Down Day.

If you’ve been following my journey, you know I started this season with four contenders in the bag: the Titleist Tour Soft, the Srixon Soft Feel, the Callaway Supersoft, and the Bridgestone e6. After some initial testing, I narrowed the field. Today, it came down to the final two: The Bridgestone e6 and the Callaway Supersoft. I have found the best ball for slow swing speeds.

The goal? Choosing the one ball I will play for the entire season to help me lower my average from 98.4 to 92.

The Test Flight: 9 Holes at the Course

The course was busy, but the weather was perfect for testing. My strategy was simple:

  • Holes 1–4: Bridgestone e6
  • Holes 5–9: Callaway Supersoft

The Front End: Bridgestone e6

Right out of the gate on Hole 1, I put the Bridgestone e6 right down the middle of the fairway. As a golfer with a herniated disk and limited flexibility, seeing that ball fly straight off the tee is a beautiful sight.

On my second shot, I was 160 yards out. I pulled my rescue club, and the ball landed softly right on the green. While my “nemesis”—the three-putt—showed up to say hello, I couldn’t blame the ball. The Bridgestone was performing exactly how I needed it to.

The Turn: Callaway Supersoft

On Hole 5, I switched to the Callaway. I’ll give credit where it’s due: I smashed it off the tee. But as the round went on, I hit a “blowup hole” (a double bogey). I had a nice little shot onto the green, but the ball just didn’t want to stick. That was a mark against the Callaway for me.

The Comparison: Breaking Down the Data

When I finished the nine, I sat down to really think about how these two performed. Since I’m not changing my swing to accommodate my back, I need a ball that does the heavy lifting in three categories:

  1. The Driver: Both did well here. I had good strikes and solid distance with both.
  2. The Mid-Range (Rescues and 7-Irons): This is where I live on the course. Both were reliable, but the Bridgestone felt just a bit more consistent for my swing speed.
  3. The Wedges: This was the tie-breaker. Both balls hit the green, but the Bridgestone stuck. Having that ball stay where it lands is a huge confidence booster.

The Verdict: My Ball for the Season

Today is decision day. While the Callaway is a great ball, I need the one that fits my game best as I push toward 60 with limited flexibility.

The winner is the Bridgestone e6.

I’m locking it in. By playing one ball consistently, I’m removing a variable. I’m not changing my swing anymore—I’m just changing my scores.
